How Delta Became Truly Cloud Native: Avoiding the Vendor-Lock
Delta has achieved a rarity in the industry: workflow portability. In this talk, Jasmine James, an engineering leader from Delta, will share how and why they moved to cloud native and their strategy in building the path to kubernetes. Dive in to understand Delta's push to modernize and go cloud native, and how containerization factored into the build. Other enterprise-level organizations may benefit from Jasmine’s insights on shifting the mental model when approaching technical decisions and her contrarian belief that companies need not be handcuffed by a cloud provider.

Implementing Open Source Culture at NASA
When frustrated by lack of adoption within NASA of modern application development tooling, Marshall's team of 4 set out to build a from-scratch, cloud-native PaaS specifically tuned to meet complex operational and regulatory requirements at NASA. In Sept 2018, their grant proposal was accepted to begin work on APPDAT, our platform based on GKE + GitLab. With GitLab's extended EE trial period during their prototype phase, Marshall's team demonstrated enormous value very quickly. They are now leading the effort to operate Agency workloads on GCP for the first time, migrating 100+ legacy Cold Fusion apps (using custom ADO templates), plans to migrate STI program and the 40TB of public research documents they manage. Learn how Marshall overcame the cultural and business challenges presented and how this team's work is all tying back to their primary goal: demonstrating the benefits of OSS and unified toolchains, bringing that culture back to NASA... and flying Kubernetes clusters to the Moon!
