Never Hire a Butler To Do a Robot's Job
Limited Capacity seats available

This session will discuss the critical differences between Born for DevOps / Cloud CI and pre-DevOps & Cloud CI that make it a better choice for Infor's SaaS development teams.  We capitalize on Gitlab CIs Born for DevOps & Cloud heritage by providing an automation template to enable teams to rapidly deploy Gitlab CI in a highly available, scalable, secure and cost-efficient way that leverages spot instances in autoscaling groups on AWS.  We are migrating from Jenkins AWS configurations that attempted to provide similar benefits - so the session will highlight where Gitlab CI's Born for DevOps & Cloud heritage dramatically accelerates and simplifies providing these capabilities.

Picking up Speed: Logging & Stream Processing
Limited Capacity seats available

Logging and Data analysis are intrisincally tied. From an operational perspective, backend storage must be aligned in order to centralize the data. Traditional data analysis is not fast enough for modern needs. Pushing logs to aggregators for processing is time-consuming and slows the feedback loop. There are plenty of opportunities to improve data analysis time while the data is still in motion. In this presentation, Eduardo will discuss data processing patterns and how this new approach of Stream Processing on the Edge can be used for faster data availability and smaller feedback loops in distributed environments. The result? Systems that can evolve faster and data science teams are empowered to accurately understand what is happening inside their systems.

Running GitLab and GitLab CI in Kubernetes for the Enterprise
Limited Capacity seats available

Northwestern Mutual is running GitLab in a fully distributed model in Kubernetes. They've also deployed GitLab Runners in AWS to manage demand for capacity and cost. Securing pipelines has always been a top priority; however, keeping secrets protected in a multi-tenant environment is a constant challenge. They've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly over the cource of their journey from 2016 to today, long before any documentation or Helm Charts existed. Learn from Sean and Kyle as they share Northwestern Mutual's experiences on how to provide a scalable, highly available SCM for users and leverage Kubernetes effectively. In this talk, Sean and Kyle will cover converging dynamic secrets into a shared environment to keep pipelines secure while minimizing overhead management. Dive into GitLab CI with Kyle, and learn about running Gitlab in Kubernetes from Sean while he shares the pitfalls Northwestern Mutual found along the way and best practices to avoid them.

Automation and Iteration: How a small agency team takes advantage of Gitlab to test and deploy rapidly across environments by Cory Zibell
  • Through GitLab's powerful features and APIs, Cory has built custom tools and workflows that enables his small team to spin up projects and begin pushing code as soon as they get approval. Many agencies still operate in the "SFTP up from the master branch." In this talk, Cory will show how much time his team has saved by having a proper CI and Release setup and how other small teams can do the same.

GitLab Permissions As Code by Nicole Schultz & Mike Nick
  • In this session, Nicole and Mike will dive into the technical aspects of how Northwestern Mutual leveraged the GitLab API to achieve Permission as code, not to mention how other teams can do so too.

Cloud Native Spelunking: the value of GitLab and Platforms by Paul Burt
  • Paul invites you to recall those early days of the web, when folks would FTP somewhere and upload a few HTML files. Simple and easy. Now? Engineers have to consider serverless, Kubernetes, and the morass of containers. This talk is a collection of lessons Paul has picked up as his team built a modern cloud native platform at NetApp.
